The York Campus Community,

 

As I am making my way around the campus meeting Faculty, Staff and Students, I would like to thank the community for such a warm welcome!

 

Please find my initial campus wide update for some of my key areas.

 

Facilities 

 

ACB Roof Upgrade Project Update

 

Since the start of the roof replacement project the number of leaks reported due to water coming from the roof has significantly declined. Also, the number of new reports of water infiltration is almost none. Recent reports of water leaks have primarily been due to mechanical equipment like radiator leak, condensation at pipes, or ventilation ducts. 

 

Please note the major updates to the roof replacement work as follows:

• Fencing remains around the plaza till complete project completion.
• Fencing by the library will be removed in July when work in that area is completed.
• The fencing around the H Wing will be removed as the roof in this area is the last to be completed.
• In July the project will achieve 75% completion.
• In September 2024 with the weather permitting, the project will be at substantial completion 

 

Athletic Field

  We are excited to announce the opening of its new Track & Field. 

·     Key features of the track are its 6 lanes 400-meter length.

·     Approximately 40 meters minimum run length long jump and separate pole vault track.

·     The oval shaped track configuration is 176.91 meters long and 92.5 meters wide, with a full-size soccer field in the middle, all comply with NCAA athletics facilities design standards.

·     The facility accommodates the majority of collegiate level Track & Field meets and tournaments.

Although the project is substantially complete, it is still being outfitted with new goal posts and other related equipment for operation maintenance

Please be on the lookout for a save-the-date, the College is preparing a ribbon cutting

ceremony in the near future.

Budget

We are currently outperforming last year's tuition collection rates for fiscal year 2024 and are ahead by 1.12% for summer 2023, 4.07% for summer 2024, and 0.88% for Fall 2023. 

We are actively working to improve the collection rate for Spring 2024, aiming to meet our FY24

Financial Plan target collection rate of 92.8%. Achieving this will result in positive revenue over target for FY24.

 

The Budget Office is currently scheduling individual meetings with departments to review their FY25 Budget Request submissions. Following this, we'll meet with each VP to review their Division’s FY25 submission and commence preparations for the FY25 Financial Plan.

 

Within the next month, I will be sending out a separate campus wide email updating the New York State Enacted Budget to the CUNY Senior Colleges and the implications for York. I will also provide an update on the CUNY Financial Plan process and the FY25 allocations.

 

Information Technology

 

We are now in May and about to embark on a brand-new Commencement and say goodbye to our Class of 2024. There will be significant updates, before the end of the semester from York College Information Technology Services that you need to know. These updates encompass various areas like Cyber Security, Business Intelligence, and Net Infrastructure.  These initiatives are part of our ongoing commitment to enhance the campus cyber readiness, our network infrastructure, and our services to ensure we meet the evolving needs of our community. Here is our update:

 

Enhancing Security: Implementation of Multi-Factor Authentication

 

York College, in partnership with CUNY Central, is enhancing security measures by implementing Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) across its applications and services. This initiative aims to bolster the protection of both personal and institutional data against cyber threats. Users of CUNY Microsoft 365, already accustomed to MFA for accessing Microsoft 365, will find this a familiar security enhancement. Detailed instructions for setting up and using MFA to access office desktops and York network resources remotely are currently being developed and will be provided soon. We are also improving our cybersecurity posture by establishing more rigorous controls for accessing the York Virtual Private Network.
