Dear Colleagues,

The General Education Assessment Committee (GEAC) and the Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Strategic Planning (OIESP) cordially invite you to a workshop on: Expanding Assessment of Critical Thinking to Upper-Division Courses on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 from 12:30-1:45pm on Zoom.

What: Expanding Assessment of Critical Thinking to Upper-Division Courses

When: October 29, 2024 from 12:30-1:45pm

Where: Zoom

Host: Phebe Kirkham, Chair of GEAC

Register: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZIlfuyprDwtHdL7HmiI9NVO_SbegU3qX7TH

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.

As we begin our pilot of Critical Thinking as an Institutional Learning Outcome [ILO], this workshop will offer the opportunity to consider how to assess this competency college-wide. Building on work done in GEAC to assess Critical Thinking at the 100 and 200 level, we will look at how to expand that assessment to the upper-division courses to capture a snapshot of our students' proficiency as they complete their undergraduate studies.

What is Critical Thinking?

“Critical thinking is a habit of mind characterized by the comprehensive exploration of issues, ideas, artifacts, and events before accepting or formulating an opinion or conclusion.” American Association of Colleges & Universities (AAC&U).
