It is my pleasure to announce that Rafael Nunez has been selected as the January 2025 Employee of the Month!
Some of the highlights of his nomination include:
- Rafael plays a critical role in managing and supporting York's website. He works hard to ensure the consistency and accessibility of the website presenting the content for all academic departments, support units and administrative offices. He always upgrades the website system to take advantages of the latest technology development.
- Rafael works collaboratively with his web team colleagues as well as people from other departments or units to accomplish common goals. For example, he works with staff members from the Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Strategic Planning at York College to create YAMS.
- Instead of spending a lot of money to purchase a program, Rafael created YAMS (York Assessment Management System) which addressed significant challenges in managing assessment documents across the College’s 37 Administrative, Educational and Student Support (AESS) Units and 57 Academic Programs. Before YAMS, departments relied on various tools such as Excel, Google Docs and Blackboard, resulting in inconsistencies and inefficiencies. YAMS offers a centralized platform for annual document submission, enabling the institution to generate comprehensive reports. It ensures compliance with academic program and AESS unit assessment documentation requirements and promotes sustainability and transparency across the College. Rafael has created other IT solutions outside of YAMS including the one that support the P&B voting actions.
- As a director, Rafael shows great leadership in leading the web team to ensure the quality, consistency and accessibility of the York website. He also led the YAMS project team to develop the home-grow system and facilitated the process of managing assessment across the campus.
- Rafael always responds to our inquiries promptly, and make himself available to meet our needs. He is very patient to explain how some specific features on the website work and show us how to do things for our website.
