Dear Members of the York College Community,
We are aware of and share in the anxiety, questions and concerns of our immigrant and international student community in light of recent events.  To assist in seeking out resources to address these concerns, we have added an “International and Immigrant Student Resources” page to the York College website, accessible at https://www.york.cuny.edu/student-development/immigration-resources .  We will continue to add resources to the page as they are identified.
York College supports and reminds our community of the recent comments of the Chancellor:
CUNY is deeply committed to protecting our undocumented and other non-citizen students to the fullest extent of the law. We will closely adhere to guidance on safeguarding the rights of immigrant students shared by our state leaders. We will continue to observe existing CUNY policy that requires a judicial warrant for any federal or local law enforcement official who comes to a campus seeking to make an arrest. Should anyone on a campus face this scenario they should contact Public Safety or Campus Legal Affairs offices in the campuses for guidance.
We will also continue to support financial aid for undocumented and other immigrant students through the José Peralta New York State DREAM Act and our long-standing partnership with TheDream.US scholarship program. (Students from mixed-status families who are concerned about applying for aid through the NYS DREAM Act can find guidance [on the web at www.hesc.ny.gov/guidance-mixed-status-families ].)
If you are worried that your immigration status may put you at risk, the University has numerous offices and programs to support you. These include many resources under the office of Undocumented and Immigrant Student Programs. Each CUNY campus has a designated immigrant success liaison and seven colleges also have an immigrant student success center or support initiative. Members of the CUNY community and all New Yorkers can also find help at CUNY Citizenship Now!, which has offered free, confidential immigrant legal services for 30 years.
Appointments with Citizenship Now! may be made at: https://www.immigrationadvocates.org/nonprofit/legaldirectory/organization.393168-CUNY_Citizenship_Now_York_College_Immigration_Center or by calling 718-262-2983.
Please also take note of this Travel Advisory from the University, regarding students planning international travel in the coming weeks or months, including during Spring Break.
