As we continue to monitor forecasts regarding potential severe weather in our area, we encourage all students, faculty, and staff to take appropriate precautions to ensure their safety and help protect College facilities and property.

Please review the following storm preparedness recommendations:

Before Leaving Campus

• Close and secure all office, classroom, and laboratory windows.
• Shut down desktop computers, monitors, printers, and other non-essential electronic equipment before leaving for the day.
• Save your work and back up important files to approved cloud or network storage locations.
• Secure loose items that could become hazardous during high winds.
• Report any facility-related concerns, including leaks, flooding, or damaged infrastructure, to the appropriate campus office as soon as possible.
• Do not touch or attempt to move electrical equipment that has been exposed to water.

Commuting and Travel Safety

• Allow extra travel time and anticipate possible delays on roadways and public transportation.
• Be alert for flooding, fallen tree limbs, downed power lines, and other hazardous conditions.
• Never approach or touch a downed power line.
• Do not drive or walk through flooded areas, as conditions may be difficult to assess and can be dangerous.
• Monitor public transportation and traffic advisories before traveling.

Stay Informed

York College and CUNY will provide updates through official communication channels as conditions warrant. We encourage all members of the campus community to:

• Monitor official CUNY Alert notifications and York College email communications.
• Visit the York College website and official social media channels for updates.
• Sign up for and monitor Notify NYC, New York City's official emergency communications program.
• Tune in to reliable news sources such as 1010 WINS, local television stations, and the National Weather Service for the latest information.
• Monitor official York College and CUNY communications for any changes to campus operations, schedules, or access.

Reporting Emergencies and Safety Concerns

On Campus

• To report an emergency, hazardous condition, suspicious activity, flooding, or other immediate safety concern on campus, contact York College Public Safety at 718-262-2222.
• If there is an immediate life-threatening emergency, call 911.

Off Campus

• Report non-emergency New York City-related concerns by calling 311 or visiting NYC.gov/311.
• If you are in immediate danger or experiencing an emergency, call 911 immediately.
• Follow the instructions of local emergency management and public safety officials at all times.
