Hello faculty,
I am writing to solicit nominations for the following Senate standing and ad hoc committees.
There are
eight standing committees; of these, the College Curriculum Committee's faculty members are elected by department, and the other seven are elected by the Faculty Caucus. The Committee on Resources has been filled. For the others, we hope to fill them shortly so the business of the college can run effectively with strong faculty representation. Standing committee terms are two years.
You may self-nominate or be nominated via a department senator or your chair. Simply nominate by replying to me directly (not to all). My personal advice is that faculty consult with your department chair about all committee assignments before volunteering for or accepting any service role. The details of each committee are given in the link above, and briefly described below. Please send your nominations in by Monday 10/5.
Standing committees (note: the number of faculty needed may be subject to minor adjustment as new information gets confirmed)
Academic Policy and Standards: (3 faculty needed) Hear and decide on petitions and appeals of students; develop and recommend academic policy and standards, including admissions.
Campus Environment and Facilities: (4 faculty needed) Make recommendations regarding policy, programs, decor, safety, security, amenities, cultural programs, and the physical plant of the College
Elections: (2 faculty needed) Establish policy regarding student and faculty elections, and run student elections; collect faculty election results
Governance: (1 faculty needed) Assess Senate Charter, propose amendments or revisions, review and make recommendations on academic, instructional and administrative policy
Instruction and Professional Development: (3 faculty needed) Establish and review classroom and professional development practices and assessment
Library: (4 faculty needed ) Establish processes and systems for reviewing library services, holdings and technology, and assess faculty and student satisfaction with the library
Two ad hoc committees
Enrollment and Retention (Caucus recommends 3 faculty, President will select 2 of the 3)
Communications and Marketing (Caucus recommends 3 faculty, President will select 2 of the 3)
Thank you for considering. Please let me know if you have any questions.
-Emmanuel.
