Dear Campus Community,
Thank you for the warm welcome to York! In my first week, I have had the opportunity to absorb as much as I could of the essence of the college and the community of faculty, staff and students that call York their academic and professional home. What is clear to me is the deep dedication of the faculty and staff to the college’s mission and that York is the vehicle students have chosen to both transform and propel their lives.
Perhaps it is fate that I write to you on such a day as today, as we celebrate the legacy of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Today, as we are reminded of the March on Washington, his seminal speeches and most notably his dream, I call you to remember his activism and how he not only worked to shed light on this country’s darkest corners, but he worked actively, collaboratively, and tirelessly to find solutions. We are called to do the same for our students: work actively, collaboratively, and tirelessly to not only find solutions, but to support them in achieving their dreams.
It is what I intend to do during my time here, and I look forward to doing so with each one of you.
Happy MLK Day!
Many thanks,
C. Schrader
