CUNY-wide Team Science/Scholarship Training and Convergence Research Workshop
Effective team scholarship is both an art and a science and like both, is best learned by doing. The Office of Research is sponsoring a Research Workshop with two connected sessions. These include a half-day introduction session on September 6, 2024 (fully virtual) designed to give you new insights and skills for effective collaborations and a full-day team- building session on September 13, 2024 (fully in-person) designed to create new ideas and teams to carry forward tangible collaboration and pursuit of funding opportunities. To register, please go to the registration sites as provided below in each session before 08/31/2024. A Zoom link to Session 1 will be provided after your registration. Seating for the in-person session is limited, so please register early.
Please note that if you are interested in attending Session 2 to participate in research team formation, Session 1 is a pre-requisite. A recording will be made available for those who cannot attend the 9/6/2024 session but to catch up before the 9/13/2024 session. Materials taught in Session 1 are crucial to participate in Session 2 but will not be repeated.
There is no expectation that you must show up for Session 2 if you only want to learn about Team Science in general from Session 1.
Session 1: Team Science, from Theory to Practice*
Half-day virtual training, September 6 (Friday) from 1:00-5:00 pm
(Zoom link will be provided upon successful registration)
This session will introduce key concepts in team formation and effective teamwork, from communicating across disciplines to team roles to the leadership skills needed by every member of an effective team.
* This comes from the title of an excellent review of team science by Bennet and Gadlin:
Session 2: Generation and Convergence
Full-day in-person Workshop, September 13 (Friday) from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
Location: CUNY Central Office Room 0725 (7th Floor), 205 East 42nd Street, New York, NY 10017
Bring an idea that might be ready for development and collaboration! We will use hands-on techniques to sort among ideas and perhaps combine them and create converging teams to flesh them out. We will use the skills from Session 1 with additional tools for team formation, solidification of ideas into practice, and creation of plans for moving forward
About the Team Science Workshop Trainers
These two sessions of Team Science Workshop will be provided by experts from the AtKisson Training Group (ATG), which has been working closely with CUNY in the past few years to provide targeted training workshops, including the ones that successfully launched the CCNY’s College-wide Research Vision (CRV) Initiative with the inaugural project titled Energizing Equity: Co-creating Scalable Urban Resilience via Climate Solidarity.
