Welcome Back!
On behalf of the Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management, I’d like to thank you for your support and partnership in “seating the class” this Fall. With your support, we implemented a number of recruitment initiatives from the Strategic Enrollment Management Plan and the Thurgood Marshall College Fund.York increased our enrollment from 6161 in Fall 2023 to 6244 this Fall, coming 56 students short of our goal of 6300. Thank you for all you’ve done to help us increase enrollment this year!
As Student Affairs focuses on providing our students with the tools to be successful as Cardinals, Admissions is gearing up to recruit students for the Spring and Fall 2025 admission cycles. This year, our goal is to attend at least 200 off-campus recruitment events including school visits, fairs, and community events to heighten York’s visibility and strengthen our community relationships. We are also focusing on intentional recruitment of first-year students for Spring 2025 so if you know of students who have already graduated or have taken a gap semester/ year, please send them our way.
Finally on the admission front, we are offering an exciting opportunity for faculty and staff who may be interested in traveling with York’s recruitment team. Please keep an eye out for more information about how to volunteer with our recruiters.
Advisement
In April, we officially welcomed the Center for Advisement to the Division. By strengthening our communication and hosting weekly on-line and campus-basedenrollment events, incoming students experienced a more seamless transition from acceptance to registration. This also allowed us to support Academic Affairs with earlier information about incoming students and course scheduling. Continuing student enrollment remains a challenge, with 360 fewer continuing students registered this Fall, compared to last. We need to take an “all hands-on deck” approach to assisting our students in registering for Winter and Spring when registration opens. For students who have financial concerns related to earlier registration, please remind them that working through these issues at the start of registration gives the staff more time to help resolve their concerns.
York Opportunity Network
We’re thrilled to share that the relationships that we formed through the York Opportunity Network (YON) are beginning to pay off. YON is a network of more than 40 community-based organizations that serve families in Queens, Brooklyn and Long Island by hosting college-access and youth programs. After hosting ourfirst breakfast with President Schrader in May, and a FAFSA completion workshop later that month, we’ve already enrolled eight, first-year students this Fall. Given the timing of the admission cycle, we’re proud of the impact these partnerships are making on our enrollment efforts. We look forward to building relationships between York’s advisors and the counselors from these organizations to help retainthe students.
Testing Office
We’re happy to announce that the Testing Office has been working to increase services by offering the CLEP exam in the beginning of October. We are also adding York back to the site list for the SAT exam. I’d like to thank Natalie Walker and Nicholas Jones for their leadership in providing these necessary services and elevating our visibility in the community as a partner.
Finally, Open House is fast approaching on Sunday, November 10th, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM in the Health & Physical Education Building. While we look forward to hosting prospective new students for the Fall of 2025, please also invite first-year Cardinals who are looking to start in January 2025. As always, please don’t hesitate to contact us with your feedback and ideas.
Thank you again for your commitment to supporting enrollment at York.
Warmly,
Karen
