When: October 29, 2024 from 12:30-1:45pm
Where: Zoom
Host: Phebe Kirkham, Chair of GEAC
Register: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZIlfuyprDwtHdL7HmiI9NVO_SbegU3qX7TH
After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.
As we begin our pilot of Critical Thinking as an Institutional Learning Outcome [ILO], this workshop will offer the opportunity to consider how to assess this competency college-wide. Building on work done in GEAC to assess Critical Thinking at the 100 and 200 level, we will look at how to expand that assessment to the upper-division courses to capture a snapshot of our students' proficiency as they complete their undergraduate studies.
What is Critical Thinking?
“Critical thinking is a habit of mind characterized by the comprehensive exploration of issues, ideas, artifacts, and events before accepting or formulating an opinion or conclusion.” American Association of Colleges & Universities (AAC&U).
Workshop Outcomes
- Discuss the Critical Thinking rubric as adapted for York;
- Identify suitable artifacts from upper-division Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 courses;
- Encourage faculty with discipline-specific expertise to participate in this assessment.
Please share this with colleagues in your department.
Thank you in advance for your support!
