Dear York College Community,
At York College, we are dedicated to ensuring a safe and inclusive environment for everyone. I am writing to inform you about an incident that was reported on campus earlier this week and the actions taken in response.
On Wednesday, January 23, 2025, offensive graffiti was reported. The markings were located on a staircase wall near the Academic Advisement Center. The graffiti, consisting of the letters "KKK," was small, faint, and appeared to be written in pencil.
The Department of Public Safety immediately responded to document and investigate the incident. As per standard procedure, The New York Police Department (NYPD) was contacted, and the graffiti was classified as a hate crime. The markings have since been removed, and the area is being cleaned by our custodial staff.
We take this matter very seriously, and we want to assure our community that there is no indication of any current threat to York College related to this incident.
We acted swiftly and in collaboration with local law enforcement to address the matter. As we move forward, we encourage everyone to remain vigilant. Public safety is a shared partnership, with our Students, Faculty, and Staff playing an important role. If you see something concerning, please say something. Together, we can continue to ensure York College remains safe, and respectful for all.
