Featuring Carl Clay from Black Spectrum Theatre, the York Male Initiative Program kicks off Black History Month with a screening of Black Love, a conversation on relationship skills with Mr. Clay and ends the session with an improvisation workshop. Featuring André Zachary from the Renegade Performance Group, the York Male Initiative Program takes us through the history of greeting in the Black community (“dap”), analyzes the history of snap from its origins in the queer community to its arrival on the mainstage of In Living Color and rounds out the event by exploring the history of head wrapping; its revival in the Civil Rights Movement and its resurgence in Black culture today. Visual artist Julian Ali will be featured at the York Male Initiative Program’s second annual art exhibition. Attendees will get a chance to see their classmates showcased in a dialogue of diversity, self-expression and emotional processing through art. Refreshments will be served.
