Attention Faculty and Staff,
To enhance the security of our systems and protect your personal and institutional data, we are implementing recommended changes to computer access effective this coming Monday, February 10th. The changes will only happen the next time your password to the York Network expires. Please review the changes below:
Password complexity
- Password Length: Minimum of 13 characters. (New)
- Complexity: Must include at least one uppercase letter, one lowercase letter, one number, and one special character.
- Password Expiry: Passwords must be updated every 180 days.
- Account Lock Policy: Accounts will be locked after 5 unsuccessful login attempts. (New)
- Lockout Duration: Locked accounts will remain inaccessible for 15 minutes.
What You Need to Do:
- If your current password does not meet these requirements, you will be prompted to update it during your next reset period.
Computer Lock Screen Policy
- Office Computers:
All office computers will automatically lock after 15 minutes of inactivity. - Public-Facing and Open Area Computers:
All public-facing and open-area computers will automatically lock after 5 minutes of inactivity.
Log-Off Policy
- To further ensure data security and reduce resource utilization, all users will be automatically logged off from their computers at 10:00 PM every night.
We encourage all users to save their work regularly and log off manually if they leave their workspace before this time.
How This Affects You:
- Locked screens can be unlocked by re-entering your password.
- Any unsaved work will be lost if the computer logs you off at 10:00 PM. Please plan accordingly.
Your cooperation in adhering to these policies is crucial for maintaining a secure computing environment.
These changes are part of our ongoing commitment to safeguarding the York College community from potential cybersecurity threats.
