Happy Spring York Cardinals! The Division is as busy as ever with Spring activities, Summer & Fall registration, and admitted student events. The schedule is jam- packed with academic department information sessions, financial literacy workshops, professional development events, interesting lectures, athletic events, and activities to promote fitness and good mental health. Please remind students to keep up with important academic deadlines and events by checking the Academic Calendar and the College events calendar. "This Week at York" also raises awareness of all that's going on at the College. Please encourage students to check it out. For students in need of academic and personal support, please remind them of the resources that are available to them through the Office of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management. On the enrollment front, “Summer in Jamaica” continues to gain momentum with 641 students registered, compared to 492 last year- reflecting a 30.3% increase so far. Fall enrollment is also trending positively with 892 students, compared to 750 last year at this time, or an 18.9% increase overall. We look forward to hosting our Admitted Students’ Receptions on April 24th and April 30th, while maintaining an almost daily schedule of school visits and college fairs through the end of May. Thank you to our admissions and financial aid colleagues for the hard work of processing applications at a higher rate, earlier in the semester. Thank you for also offering FAFSA completion workshops and supporting the increase in visits to the campus by high school groups and community-based organizations. Thank you to faculty and staff for extending invitations to your department events to prospective students and for traveling with admission staff to high school visits, fairs and community events. All of these efforts are making a difference. Finally, as the end of the semester is quickly approaching, please remind students to meet with their academic advisors (now), register for classes (now), and file the FAFSA (as soon as possible). As President Schrader mentioned in her monthly update, over 3000 continuing students eligible to register. That's 100 students in 30 days! This is not an impossible lift with a nudge and a reminder from all faculty and staff. The classes they need are available now and students can ensure they get the classes they need by registering NOW. registration also gives the staff more time to assist students in securing financial aid and participating in payment plans. When you have a chance, ask your students, have you registered for the Summer and Fall yet? In the meantime, enjoy a wonderful and restful Spring break. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Warmly, Karen Williams kwilliams29@PROTECTED |
