York College – Global The Office of Academic Affairs would like to announce the launch of York College - Global, an initiative to support faculty and student scholarship with the following goals: 1. Capitalize on the diverse backgrounds and global interests of York College students and faculty. 2. Support systematic integration of international dimensions to the curriculum to address York College’s mission of transforming students into “global citizens”. 3. Generate students’ interest and proficiency in research through the internationalized inquiry agenda. 4. Foster transnational university-to-university relations toward sustainable partnership, facilitating study-abroad programs, scholarship production, and faculty exchange. 5. Promote York College as a CUNY leader in academic innovation through transnational activities. 6. Parlay the internationalized curriculum into a magnet for potential students. The project entails: - Research into an important social issue in the foreign context, drawing on students and faculty from various disciplines. This year’s topic is Conflict and Managing Conflict.
- Collaborative activities (meetings, seminars, scholarship) among participating disciplines represented by two students and a faculty mentor from each discipline.
- The ultimate outcome of the project is the College-wide colloquium in April/May of 2026 with a large-scale exposure to the CUNY community and NYC high schools.
Duration of the project: One year. Participants: Nine – a faculty member and two students from three disciplines. Participating disciplines: humanities, social sciences, foreign languages, professional programs, etc. Incentives: $1,000 summer salary to support scholarship Coordination: Dr. Vadim Moldovan, currently assigned to the OAA in the capacity of Faculty Fellow, supervised by the Provost. The project includes elements of the Honors and study-abroad programs. However, foreign travel is not envisioned at the present time. We are looking for expressions of interest from members of the faculty who would engage and mentor two students during AY25/26, participate in online discussions and seminars, and help students to prepare for the 2026 colloquium. Interested faculty should attend the informational Zoom session on Friday, May 23, at 1 p.m. https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81106436452?pwd=IvaBhlGqFAOijI4hGthkolEM99kglt.1 If you are unable to attend the Zoom session, please inform Provost Derrick Brazill of your interest in the program (dbrazill@PROTECTED). We are looking forward to successfully completing this project and sustaining York College – Global as a source of academic excellence, creative scholarship, and institutional prestige. |
