Good morning,
We are almost a year away from the 60th anniversary (October 24, 1966) of the CUNY vote to create a fifth senior college, designated as Alpha College.
York was the first senior college founded under the newly formed CUNY system. York’s storied history includes thousands of people who made their way to our doors as students, faculty, staff, students and community members at the Oakland Jewish Center (1st location, 1967)in Bayside Queens, to Queensborough Community College(2nd location, 1971), to the renovated ex- Montgomery Ward department store in Jamaica Queens (3rd location, 1974), to 94-20 Guy R. Brew Blvd.(1986).
It is time for celebration! To this end I am asking for volunteers to join the 60th Anniversary Planning Committee.
The work of the 60th Anniversary Committee will kick off in the Fall 2025 with initial activities commencing in January of 2026. Committee chairs will be selected from among the Committee Membership.
Key committee objectives will include:
- Working collaboratively with units across the college including the college foundation
- Identifying potential anniversary themes
- Developing and prioritizing potential celebratory activities along with a proposed budget
- Creating an implementation timeline for activities
- Developing subcommittees and network of volunteers
If you are interested in and willing to serve, please email Veronica at vmariani@PROTECTED by June 16, 2025.
Many thanks,
