York College is pleased to announce the following new hires!
Andrew Marroquin, Claudell Davis and Mark Guido all have previous years of experience supporting B&G operational tasks. They joined in early May and will contribute to a well-functioning B&G unit.
Shahena Ferdous will join our team of safety professionals and will support the mission of Campus Safety to provide a safe and secure campus.
German Morales will contribute to a healthy campus environment with Custodial Services.
Tonya Collins has years of specialized experience in digital media, multimedia content creation, broadcast communications including television, film, radio production while serving in roles at Medgar Evers and most recently at Kingsborough Community College. Her skills and talents will contribute to a very busy marketing and communications department within Inst. Advancement.

It is my pleasure to announce that Silvia Nava has been selected as the May 2025 Employee of the Month!
Some highlights of her nomination include:
- This academic year, Silvia Nava has been supporting the Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Strategic Planning with the Campus Pulse survey process. Ms. Nava created the visuals, obtained and then distributed all materials, and promoted the survey on the Cardinal App. While communications, marketing, and outreach efforts falls within her job description for Student Affairs, Ms. Nava is also using her skills and talents in support of college-wide assessment. Silvia assumed responsibility for the design, assisted in identifying outreach strategies, and modified processes as needed to support the first phase of the Campus Pulse Survey process in fall 2024. As of spring 2025, Ms. Nava is providing the same support for the Academic Advisement Survey that is launching this semester for all academic departments, Academic Advisement Center, SEEK, and ACE. She has gone above and beyond and has been a wonderful asset to my office in this work.
- Ms. Nava works well with all members of my team and is very responsive to our requests. She provides input, takes direction well, and is willing to pivot quickly, if needed. While she is not a member of my office, she is an invaluable asset in providing support to increase survey response rates among students. In addition to assisting with the new Campus Pulse and Academic Advisement surveys, Ms. Nava assisted with the digital engagement initiative to support the Mission, Vision, Values review process. Again, Ms. Nava worked quickly, in collaboration with myself and members of Institutional Advancement, to launch the initiative on the Cardinal App, monitor participation, encourage engagement, and provide regular updates.
- Ms. Nava created the materials for the Campus Pulse Surveys (posters, palm cards, and social media) and is now doing the same for the Academic Advisement Survey. They are well designed, clearly articulated, and reflect quality work. Her contributions in this area are significant and she possess the skills needed to support the survey process at York.
- Ms. Nava is friendly, personable, and is always willing to assist. In addition to her contributions with the surveys as described, Ms. Nava is assisting in the Middle States Self-Study process. As I do not have an administrative support, Ms. Nava is assisting with the calendar – scheduling accreditation meetings, creating zoom links, monitoring responses, and keeping me informed.
- While not in a leadership role, Ms. Nava has displayed leadership abilities in how she interacts with my team, provides suggestions, pivots quickly, and carries out tasks in a professional manner.
Silvia – we want to personally thank you for your excellent efforts at York College!
