Dear York Colleagues
The University has announced that the Central Office and college campuses will once again participate in the four-day summer workweek, which will be in effect during the period of Monday, June 9, 2025, through Friday, August 15, 2025.
All full-time employees (excluding Campus Security and all 220 Skilled Trades titles) are eligible to participate. Practices for the workweeks that include Juneteenth (observed on Thursday, June 19th), and Independence Day (observed on Friday, July 4th) shall be the same as in preceding years. Specifically, staff shall have four regular (un-extended) workdays on that week.
Eligible staff are expected to continue to work 80% in-person, 20% remote, through Friday, June 6, 2025. From Monday, June 9, 2025, through Thursday, August 14, 2025, eligible staff may work 75% in-person, and 25% remote (e.g., three days in-person, and one day remote, with the College being closed on the fifth day). Beginning Monday, August 18, 2025, until further notice, eligible employees may resume a 80% in-person, 20% remote schedule. Eligibility and requirements for remote work otherwise remain as previously established. Department heads should work with their teams to ensure consistent coverage in their offices, and to establish expectations for remote work.
In order to maintain the integrity of the extended four-day workweek concept, the University has asked that each college ensure that employees who are working an extended day, actually work the hours. Managers are encouraged to use this opportunity to discuss and stress the importance of appropriate office coverage in your area. Reasonable strategies for meeting this expectation should be developed.
Employees can choose from one of four (4) options (three in the case of B&G staff) to complete their normal weekly hours in a four-day period. However, should the needs of your department/office require a schedule that has not been identified, the supervisor/manager should contact Human Resources to discuss alternate schedules. Note that several options are subject to the availability of the employee’s annual leave.
Each eligible employee must complete the 'Four Day Summer Week Forms'. All completed forms should be returned to the Office of Human Resources via the Human Resources mailbox, humanresources@PROTECTED, no later than Thursday, June 5, 2025. If a selection is not made by June 5th, employees will be placed in Option #1.
(Note: Forms for Custodial staff should be sent directly to Mr. Alejandro Rodriguez for review and signature prior to being sent to HR).
Please be sure you include “Summer Flex 2025” in the subject line.
Feel free to call the Office of Human Resources at (718) 262-2135 if you have any questions.
Updated forms (fillable and equipped for digital signature) are attached.
Thank you. Wishing you an enjoyable summer!
