Appointment of Dr. George White as Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences York College is proud to announce the appointment of Dr. George White, Jr. as the new Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences. Dr. White brings a distinguished record of academic leadership, scholarship, and service to this role. He has served as Interim Dean since 2020, during which time he has demonstrated visionary leadership, a collaborative spirit, and a deep commitment to student success and faculty development. A Ph.D. in American History from Temple University and a J.D. from Harvard Law School, Dr. White is a renowned scholar in U.S. diplomatic history, African American history, and public policy. His academic contributions include the acclaimed book Holding the Line: Race, Racism, and American Foreign Policy Toward Africa, 1953–1961, and the forthcoming Race Prophets: The History of America’s Black Chaplains, 1861–1945. During his tenure as Interim Dean, Dr. White has: - Led the approval and expansion of the Clinical Trial Management Program to a fully online format.
- Spearheaded York College’s membership in NC-SARA, enabling broader access to online education.
- Co-led major initiatives such as the Academic Momentum 2.0 campaign, PSC-CUNY Grant Writing Bootcamp, and Circle-In peer learning app.
- Strengthened partnerships with organizations like USAID.
- Championed faculty development through the Professional Advancement Initiative and supported student engagement through events like “Deep Dish with the Dean.”
Dr. White’s leadership has also been instrumental in curriculum innovation, including the creation of new interdisciplinary programs and 4+1 pathways, and in fostering a culture of research and academic excellence.
