To the York College Community,
It is with mixed emotions that we announce that Dr. Maureen Becker, Interim Associate Provost of Academic Affairs, will be leaving York College to assume the role of Interim University Dean of Health and Human Services. While we are saddened to see her go, we are incredibly proud of her accomplishments and excited for the impact she will undoubtedly make in her new role.
Dr. Becker has been a pillar of leadership and innovation at York since her arrival in 2018. As Dean of the School of Health Sciences and Professional Programs, she provided visionary leadership in teaching, research, and service, and was instrumental in leading key accreditation efforts, including that of our Master of Social Work and Public Health programs. Her commitment to academic excellence extended further when she concurrently served as Interim Dean of the School of Business and Information Systems, for the past six years, where she managed operations, cultivated industry partnerships, and initiated the school’s accreditation process.
Her dedication to student success has been unwavering. Dr. Becker secured foundation funding to support student cohort programs and led the development of new academic offerings, including Certificates in Gerontology and Maternal Health Disparities, as well as innovative 4+1 pathways to master’s degrees. She also spearheaded the acquisition of over $4 million in funding to address health disparities, enhance career-readiness and workforce development initiatives, including 22 upskilling programs and the transformation of our labs with state-of-the-art equipment. Her pioneering work in integrating mixed-reality virtual simulation and generative AI into fieldwork and clinical education curriculum has positioned York as a leader in experiential learning.
We thank Dr. Becker for her extraordinary service to York College. Her leadership, vision, and tireless advocacy for students and faculty alike have left an indelible mark on our community. Please join us in congratulating her on this well-deserved appointment and wishing her continued success in her new role at CUNY.
