Announcement: Dr. Timothy A. D. Paglione Appointed Interim Associate Provost of Academic Affairs
Dear York College Community,
We are pleased to announce that Dr. Timothy A. D. Paglione has been appointed as Interim Associate Provost of Academic Affairs at York College, CUNY.
Dr. Paglione brings to this role a distinguished record of academic leadership, research excellence, and unwavering commitment to student success and institutional advancement. A tenured full professor and long-serving Chair of the Department of Earth & Physical Sciences, Dr. Paglione has led his department through five successful terms, fostering a culture of scholarly achievement and collaboration. Under his leadership, the department has secured over $5 million in external research funding, making it one of the most grant-active units at the college.
His visionary leadership extends beyond York College. As Chair of the CUNY Astronomy & Astrophysics Consortium since 2012, Dr. Paglione has overseen the growth of a dynamic inter-campus initiative that now includes 20 faculty across 12 campuses, a newly launched Master’s in Astrophysics program, and a PhD track in astrophysics. His efforts have directly contributed to the advancement of graduate education and research across CUNY.
Dr. Paglione is also a nationally recognized advocate for diversity in the STEM field. He founded the NSF-funded AstroCom NYC mentoring program, which has supported over 70 underrepresented students in astrophysics, with 60% of alums pursuing graduate studies. His leadership in the NASA NY Space Grant Community College Partnership helped hundreds of students transition into bachelor’s programs, further demonstrating his commitment to inclusive excellence.
In addition to his academic and research credentials, Dr. Paglione has played a pivotal role in institutional planning and assessment. He has served as co-chair of Middle States accreditation committees, chaired the General Education Assessment Committee, and contributed to strategic planning and budgeting initiatives that have strengthened York College’s academic infrastructure.
Dr. Paglione holds a Ph.D. in Astronomy from Boston University and has served as a faculty member at York College since 2001. His extensive experience, collaborative spirit, and deep understanding of our institution make him exceptionally well-prepared to serve in this interim leadership role.
