Affected Application: Read.AI and Otter.AI
Service Impact: Unavailable
Location: Central Office and All colleges

End Time: 5:30PM on 09/11/25
CUNY/CIS will be blocking access to Read.AI or Otter.AI, third-party software to transcribe online meetings beginning Thursday, September 11th. Due to the fact that such applications inappropriately store CUNY meeting content on unapproved, non-CUNY cloud servers, they are therefore are not approved for use at CUNY.
To prevent the inappropriate disclosure and storage of CUNY online meeting content on unapproved cloud storage servers, CUNY will block existing Read.ai and Otter.ai user agents to prevent them from attending and recording online meetings.
Please use the meeting recording and transcription services already available in Microsoft Teams and Zoom instead of third-party software.
Please delete your account from the Read.AI or Otter.AI website and uninstall Read.AI or Otter.AI from your device(s).
In addition to the concerns above, as outlined in the Cloud Service Cybersecurity Advisory on the CUNY Issued Security Advisories web page, unapproved applications and services put individuals and the University at risk and should not be installed.
If you have any questions, please contact your Campus IT Security Manager.
