A Message from the Vice President of Student Affairs
Dear Faculty and Staff,
As we welcome students back for an exciting new academic year, I want to take a moment to extend my deepest gratitude to each and every one of you. Your unwavering support, partnership, and tireless work over the past year have been instrumental in the positive momentum in enrollment.
We have focused intently on expanding our new student recruitment efforts while also deepening our commitment to retaining our continuing students. Thanks to your collaboration, we have exceeded our overall enrollment target for Fall 2025 and anticipate an increase in the retention of our first-time, full-time cohort from Fall 2023. As our focus shifts to increasing student belonging and engagement, we look forward to supporting the Division of Enrollment Management and Retention under the leadership of Dr. Johana Rivera. The work of creating a supportive and thriving campus community is a team effort, and I am confident that by working together, we will continue to build on our progress and ensure every student feels supported on their academic journey.
In Student Affairs news, I am pleased to congratulate the York College Counseling Center for earning the Excellence in Mental Health and Wellbeing Award from the Insight into Academia. York was the only CUNY College to receive this recognition. Please be sure to thank Kim Melendez and the dedicated team for the critical work they do to support our students!
Also, we are thrilled to welcome Nurse Janea Bussey who has joined our Health Services team on a full-time basis.
As we return to the semester, consider taking advantage of our newly refurbished Fitness Center during our exclusive faculty staff fitness hours. Thank you to our colleagues in Buildings and Grounds for partnering with Athletics to refresh the space so beautifully, along with the rest of the campus. Additional times will be added later in the semester.
As a final reminder, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our office for assistance with resources to support our students’ success. We look forward to another great academic year in partnership with you. See you around campus.
Sincerely,
Karen A. Williams
