Academic Master Planning Process
Dear York College Community,
I am pleased to announce that York College will engage in an academic master planning process that will begin this academic year. This effort will focus on academic programs, particularly in the context of employment, enrollment, and educational trends.
The goal of this academic planning effort is to ensure that the programs York offers are well-aligned with the educational and employment opportunities available to our students. The resulting Academic Master Plan (AMP) will represent our programmatic academic priorities and guide academic decision-making for a period of five years.
The AMP process will take place alongside the strategic planning process, although we expect it to take a bit longer as this is the first such plan at York College. However, by engaging in both processes simultaneously, we can ensure the AMP aligns with the College’s next strategic plan.
The AMP process will be overseen by Timothy Paglione, Interim Associate Provost of Academic Affairs, and Lori Hoeffner, Vice President of Institutional Effectiveness and Strategic Planning. While they will coordinate the AMP, faculty participation is at the center of this effort, as faculty expertise is foundational for academic programs. The co-chairs will seek volunteers through the Faculty Caucus as well as direct outreach to faculty. Input will be sought from staff and students as well, as they each bring a unique perspective to academic programs.
To ensure a collegial, collaborative, transparent, and data-driven process, there will be multiple opportunities for campus-wide participation, including a survey that will go out next week, multiple community forums, and posting a draft to the intranet for anonymous feedback. The AMP committee will provide regular updates on its progress and findings through the York College Senate. In addition, a webpage will be created and maintained with materials and information to keep the community informed of the AMP committee’s progress, similar to the strategic planning process.
I am confident that this effort will result in valuable insights that will help move our college forward.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me directly or Tim or Lori. A call for volunteers will be forthcoming.
Sincerely,
Derrick Brazill, PhD
Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs
