Steeping Memory: The Magic of Cinnamon
Artist Shervone Neckles presents the second in a series of three Wellness Activities that accompany her exhibition in the York College Arts Gallery. At this second activity, wellness practitioner Renee K. Smith (aka Iya Bola) will guide participants in an exploration of the many dimensions of cinnamon through the creation of prosperity pouches, spiced honey, and a custom tea blend. Smith is initiated in the Afro-diasporic traditions of Ifá, Ẹgbẹ́, Ọbatálá, and Ọṣun. What you'll do: Participants will be introduced to the history of these traditions, as well as remedies, rituals, and practices for sweetness, protection, and abundance in everyday life.
