Dear Faculty,
I want to make you aware of a potential access challenge that may affect some of our students over the next two days or week. The Central Office is preparing to activate Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) enforcement for all CUNY students, which affects access to systems such as CUNYfirst, Brightspace, and EAB.
For the past several months, York IT has been preparing the campus community for this requirement, and while many students have completed the setup, a significant number have not yet enabled MFA. We have requested that Central delay enforcement until after finals week to avoid unnecessary disruption, and we are currently awaiting a response.
If enforcement goes forward tomorrow, some students may experience difficulty logging into their accounts until they complete MFA enrollment. To ensure students receive help quickly, we will have additional IT staff on campus for the rest of the week, ready to assist anyone who needs immediate support.
How you can help:
Please be understanding if a student reports difficulty accessing Brightspace or other systems.
If possible, remind your students today to complete their MFA setup to avoid access issues.
Direct them to our quick setup instructions and on-campus support locations (IT Welcome Center at Academic Core areas where IT staff will be stationed).
Our top priority is minimizing impact on instruction and ensuring students remain able to complete their coursework and final exams without interruption. Your partnership and flexibility during this brief transition period are greatly appreciated.
If you have any questions or encounter students who need assistance, please let us know immediately.
Thank you for your continued support and understanding.
