York College, in coordination with the City University of New York (CUNY), will transition student email services to a new CUNY-wide Microsoft 365 student email system. This initiative provides students with one secure email mailbox and login across all CUNY colleges, improving communication reliability and integration with Microsoft 365 tools.
The transition will take place during Spring Break 2026, and the new student email accounts will be ready when students return to campus.

What This Means for Students
Beginning April 13, students will receive a new CUNY email mailbox.
Your account will also include these associated addresses:
All official CUNY and York College communications will be delivered to this new mailbox.
What Is Not Changing
• You will not lose your existing emails.
• A one-time copy of your previous college mailbox will be placed in your new mailbox (if it has been used within the last 9 months).
• Your current college email account will remain accessible for a period of time.
New Features
• One mailbox for all CUNY communications
• Full Microsoft 365 access (Outlook, OneDrive, Teams)
• Improved reliability and spam protection
• Enhanced security
Students will also be required to use Microsoft Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) when accessing their new email and Microsoft 365 services.
What Students Should Do Now
If you have not setup your Microsoft Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) , please set this up now. Go to MFA for instructions on how to do this. After April 13, 2026, students should:
• Begin using their new CUNY email account for all college communications
• Log in using their CUNY Login credentials
• Set up Microsoft MFA when prompted if you haven't done so before
• Update their email address on any non-CUNY websites or services that use their previous college email

This message is being shared so faculty and staff are aware of the change and prepared to assist students who may have questions.
Beginning April 13, all official communications sent to students will be delivered to their new CUNY email mailbox. Students will still have temporary access to their previous college email account.
York College IT, in coordination with CUNY Central Office, has established support procedures to assist students during the transition.
If students experience issues accessing their new email, please direct them to York College IT for assistance.
