The College Community,
The College continues to make improvements to campus access in order to support a safe, welcoming, and efficient environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
As part of this effort, ID scanners are now being used at campus entrances. Members of the campus community will be asked to scan their York College ID when entering buildings. Public Safety Officers remain present at entry points to assist and help maintain an orderly flow of access. These updates are designed to support the safety of our campus community while helping ensure that York College facilities remain accessible to students, faculty, staff, and invited guests.
Turnstile Access – Coming Soon
Electronic turnstiles in the A-Core will be activated in the coming weeks as final hardware and software updates are completed.
Once activated, members of the campus community will be able to tap their physical York College ID card directly at the turnstiles for entry. At that time, the current outside entrance posts will transition to serve primarily as Public Safety visitor check-in and information points. Public Safety Officers will continue to staff these locations to assist visitors, support campus operations, and maintain a visible presence that promotes safety across campus.
Helpful Information
• Turnstiles require a physical ID card. Mobile digital ID does not work with the turnstiles at this time.
• Students who have not yet picked up their physical ID card are encouraged to do so as soon as possible by visiting the Public Safety Office in Room 1M02.
• Public Safety will also coordinate ID pickup opportunities near main campus entrances to assist students who still need their cards.
• Faculty and staff with older ID cards may continue using them at this time. While these older cards may not scan, please stop and present your ID card to the Officer at the entrance. If you choose, you may also use the mobile ID for your convenience, which can be scanned at campus entrances.
• Updated faculty and staff ID cards will be rolled out in the near future, and the campus community will be notified when those updates become available.
• Other campus buildings will continue to operate using the current entrance scanning process.
• If using a mobile campus ID, it must display a valid photo in order to be used for entry. If your mobile ID does not show a photo, please visit Public Safety to update your profile.
These improvements are part of College’s continued efforts to provide a modern and convenient access system while maintaining a secure campus environment.
We appreciate the cooperation and partnership of our campus community as these improvements are implemented.
