Dear York College Community, As the spring semester comes to a close, I want to recognize the tremendous work completed across York College and thank our campus partners for helping make the semester a success. |
May was an especially active month for Information Technology. Along with supporting daily campus operations, York IT advanced several major priorities, including student email outreach, commencement support, infrastructure upgrades, cybersecurity, system modernization, and summer project planning.
Commencement Support The semester ended with an excellent commencement ceremony. Because this year’s ceremony was held at a new location, York IT worked closely with campus partners to support the technology, communications, logistics, and operational needs that helped make the event successful. |
| Student Email Transition York IT continued campus-wide outreach to encourage students to activate their new email accounts and prepare for broader CUNY email and collaboration enhancements connected to Microsoft 365 and the student experience. |
|
Network Infrastructure Milestone York IT upgraded York’s optical uplink to the CUNY internet ring from 20 Gbps to 200 Gbps, strengthening the campus network backbone and improving access to hosted applications, cloud services, and other critical systems. |
As we move into the summer, the pace of work will remain strong. York IT is preparing for a full schedule of upgrades, refreshes, and implementations to strengthen campus technology before the next academic year.
Key Summer Priorities Smart classroom upgrades Seven smart classrooms and lab spaces are scheduled for upgrades. | Wi-Fi expansion Work continues in key campus areas identified by students for improvement. | QLess Tempo upgrade Expected to go live in June, improving queue management, reporting, assessment metrics, and student service delivery. | Technology refresh Computer, copier, and classroom technology refresh work will continue. | Fiber and network modernization Infrastructure work continues to improve resiliency, speed, and long-term capacity. | Cybersecurity and asset protection York IT will continue strengthening mitigation, reporting, asset security, and disposal controls. | Assessment and Middle States readiness Assessment practices, metrics, and reporting will continue to improve in support of accreditation efforts. | Campus modernization Support continues for the website project, CourseDog, YorkGPT, Microsoft Copilot, student-facing systems, and operational reporting.
|
Whether supporting commencement, helping students activate accounts, upgrading classrooms, strengthening the network, or preparing summer projects, York IT remains focused on improving the student experience and supporting the academic and administrative work of the College.
Thank you for your continued partnership. We look forward to a productive summer. Enjoy your summer! Greg Vega Interim AVP/CIO York College Information Technology 718-262-5231 gvega@PROTECTED |
