Good morning, Jawad,
You raised a thoughtful question regarding the ongoing restroom renovations in the Academic Core Building (ACB). Because I believe many students may have similar questions, I would like to share the following update with the entire student and college community.
The Academic Core Building (ACB) ADA Restroom Upgrade Project is a major investment in our campus facilities that will modernize all 59 restrooms throughout the building and provide significant long-term benefits for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The project will:
- Bring all restrooms into compliance with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements and federal accessibility standards.
- Improve sustainability through the installation of low-flow fixtures and smart-sensor technology designed to reduce water consumption.
- Upgrade fixtures, finishes, and materials to enhance hygiene, durability, appearance, and ease of maintenance.
- Include additional improvements that will enhance the overall functionality, accessibility, and user experience of these facilities.
To minimize disruption, construction is being completed in phases to ensure that restroom facilities remain available throughout the building during the renovation process. The project consists of four phases and is expected to take approximately 24 months to complete.
We are currently nearing completion of Phase I, with Phase II anticipated to begin at the start of 2027.
The completion date for Phase I was revised from September to December due to the complex work required to integrate the renovated restrooms with the College's central alarm and life-safety systems. While this additional work has extended the schedule, it is essential to ensuring the safety, reliability, and long-term functionality of the upgraded facilities.
We recognize that construction projects can cause temporary inconvenience, and we sincerely appreciate your patience, understanding, and cooperation as these important improvements move forward. Upon completion, the York College community will benefit from modern, accessible, sustainable, and code-compliant restroom facilities that better serve the needs of all building occupants.
Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Thank you.
